Planning and Development- Frequently asked Questions

Advice provided within our frequently asked questions (FAQ's) is supplied to allow people to find helpful information and what next steps are available to them. There are many things that can affect if something needs planning permission,  therefore we cannot cover every possible scenario.

The Planning Portal is a very helpful website that offers interactive houses, mini guides and also links to building control information. They work with local authorities so you can be sure the advice is up to date and reliable. Most of our advice links to this website.

We cannot supply any advice on whether planning permission is required on the phone or via email.

Please also be aware that any breach of planning control may result in formal enforcement action being taken. It is your responsibility to ensure that your proposals or actions either:

  • Do not need planning permission, or
  • Have the benefit of planning permission where required

Once served with an Enforcement Notice, it is illegal to ignore it.
