The Gambling Act 2005 covers the regulation of gambling as well as all commercial gambling in England and Wales.

Gambling Act Policy

Ashford Borough Council approved its revised ABC Gambling Policy 2022 2025 V1.0 [pdf] 1696KB on 9 December 2021. The policy came into effect on 1 February 2022. 

Ashford Borough Council is now considering the results of its consultation on an updated policy document. A revised policy will be published here in due course.

Our objectives

There are three key licensing objectives behind the legislation:

  • Preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime
  • Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
  • Protecting children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling
