Local Sponsorship Scheme for Ukraine

The guidance outlines important information for sponsors including responsibilities of sponsors and how sponsors may support their guest.

Please visit the government website for full details.

We are currently offering support to the people of Ukraine and to our community by inspecting homes for use under the governments Homes for Ukraine scheme.

If anyone is approaching us where a government placement under this scheme is not sustainable, we are assisting with the search for private rented accommodation and any options open to them under government housing legislation

If you are a Ukrainian in need of housing advice, you can self-refer to our service and a Housing Options Officer will call you back to discuss your options.

If you wish to record your interest in becoming a sponsor, please apply via the government website.

Free rail travel for refugees on arrival in Great Britain

As of Sunday 20 March 2022, rail operators will provide Ukrainian refugees with a single onward journey via national rail free of charge on arrival in Great Britain to their final destination.

They have 48 hours to make their onward journey. They only need to show a Ukrainian passport and a boarding pass or ticket showing arrival into the country within the last 48 hours.

All the information is on National Rail Enquiries and it will be translated into Ukrainian and Russian in due course.

The scheme only applies to Great Britain at present. The government are working at pace with the wider transport industry to see what else can be offered for evacuees arriving in the country.
