Council's move to International House
May 2024 update
The council’s planned move from our Civic Centre base in Tannery Lane to nearby International House is progressing.
After initially putting forward the idea as part of budget savings proposals in spring 2023, a consultation took place during the summer last year with various stakeholders including residents, staff and tenants, and councillors approved the move late last year.
There is a strong financial rationale for moving to International House. We own both buildings and significant building and maintenance costs are needed at the Civic Centre over the next few years.
We will keep residents up to date on progress, but for now, it is very much business as usual.
August 2024 update
A contractor has now been appointed to help us with the move, which will take place in stages during the rest of the year, and into 2025.
Phase 1 of the relocation will involve moving our reception area and office staff over, which will take place during Autumn, with planned completion by the end of the year.
October 2024 update
The main office move is well underway and due to be completed by the end of the year. For residents, this means our customer services reception will be found at International House, opposite the station. (For now though, we're still at the Civic Centre).
Next year, future plans for the Civic Suite, including the Council Chamber and Mayor’s Parlour, as well as our Monitoring Centre, will be explored further, alongside potential future uses of the Civic Centre site.
November 2024 update
Plans for the council’s move from the Civic Centre to International House are on track, with the main office, including our reception, likely to open before the end of the year.
Our contractors have been on site since the summer preparing the existing office space for our move across to the new location, which will take place in stages, so we can keep any disruption to services to a minimum.
For residents this means that, when we move, our face-to-face customer services will be located at International House, opposite Ashford International Station, but otherwise there should be no other changes to the services we deliver.
We will provide more details as the move progresses, so please keep an eye on our website, social channels, Ashford For You magazine, and details on display in our Civic Centre reception.
