Chilmington Green Secondary School
Chilmington Green Secondary School plans
Bowmer + Kirkland (B+K) has been selected by the Department for Education (DfE) as the main contractor to build Chilmington Green Secondary School. The plans are for a site south east of Ashford Road in Great Chart, Kent which forms part of the South Ashford Garden Community.
Consultation
As part of the process of opening a new school, the United Learning Trust is legally required to hold a consultation exercise to determine whether the Trust should enter into a Funding Agreement with the Department for Education.
This is an opportunity for the local community to share their views on the new school and provide feedback to ensure that the school is the best it can be and meets the needs of the community.
The consultation process ran from Friday 2 December 2022 to Friday 13 January 2023.
Outline permission
Outline permission for a new mixed 11-18 six form entry school was granted as part of the wider Orchard Village area. Members of Ashford Borough Council’s Planning Committee recently granted a resolution to approve a detailed planning application for Chilmington Green Secondary School, part of the United Learning group of schools.
The brand new, purpose built school will be aspirational, inclusive, and sustainable – an inspirational learning environment for local students to thrive and prepare for their futures. It will be a school which sets high academic standards whilst nurturing and supporting students to be the very best they can be.
Bowmer + Kirkland (B+K) is the main contractor for the school and will manage all aspects of the project to ensure the works are carried out safely and with the least possible disruption to the neighbouring community through the employment of offsite manufacturing processes.
Fabric First Principle
A ‘Fabric First Principle’ approach ensures the fabric, heating, ventilation, water and lighting systems are designed to be energy efficient.
The use of materials and technology create an energy efficient, low acoustic environment that takes advantage of natural light and the adoption of the ’labyrinth’ system which maximises natural ventilation and cooling to large hall spaces during warmer periods.
The school will achieve Net Zero Carbon in operation and will be rated BREEAM excellent.
Chilmington Green Secondary School will be part of the United Learning Trust whose motto is “The best in everyone”. The architects are proposing an inspiring and sustainable school which includes community use of the facilities.
