Volunteering in our parks
Volunteering is a fantastic and flexible way to support your local park, meet new people and gain new skills. You give whatever time you are able to and we offer free training for volunteers across a variety of areas relevant to each role. There will also be opportunities for progression within the volunteer system.
The type of activities carried out by volunteers can include:
- Wildlife monitoring - helping us look for reptiles, amphibians, water voles, bats and other creatures.
- Planting, pruning, cataloguing and propagating seeds.
- Helping maintain our gardens, meadows and orchards
- Creating places for animals to take refuge and hibernate
- Building fences using natural materials
Why volunteer?
There are many benefits to volunteering, such as:
- Connecting you to your community. You can make new friends and contacts.
- Helping you to stay physically active. It can help counteract the effects of stress and anxiety, whilst also increasing your self-confidence.
- Providing you with valuable, transferrable job skills. It can help further develop existing specialist skills and helps you gain experience for your career.
- Being a fun and easy way to explore new interests. It creates more time for your hobbies out of work, and provides new opportunities to develop creative and practical skills.
