Published: 03/01/2024Ashford’s big-hearted Gurkha Nepalese community has collected 20 boxes of food items and £1,152 in cash donations for the town’s FareShare food bank.
Organised by Sagarmatha Gurkha Nepalese Community Ashford Kent (SGNCAK), the donations were presented to Tony Barnard, deputy operations manager at the charity at its office on Ashford Business Park on 21 December 2023.
SGNCAK president Mr Dammar Limbu said: “The festive period brings so much joy and happiness around the world but unfortunately due to various challenges and difficulties, many individuals and families are struggling even for their basic needs.
“A team led by vice chairperson, Mr Shikar Limbu, co-ordinated the fundraising. With so many kind people in our community and businesses participating in this year’s appeal, we managed to collect 20 boxes of food and a donation of £1,152 to FareShare Ashford.
“All of this would not have been possible without our generous donors. There are too many to list them all but our top donors included India House, Everest Inn, Store 93, Himalayan Mini Mart, Gurkha Superstore, Variety Cash N Carry, Global Bullion Vault, Peepal Mortgages, Cradlebridge Mini Mart and Durbar.”
