Ashford Borough Council (ABC) is undertaking a “soft market testing” exercise to determine interest in being part of, and helping to fulfil, the long-term vision of Conningbrook Lakes Country Park.

The Country Park is at the beginning of its journey to become a high quality, successful, attractive destination where people choose to visit - designed to integrate housing into the country park sensitively to retain the tranquillity, habitat and nature conservation value of this important location.

ABC has secured funding under Section 106 (developer contributions) to make improvements and add more facilities at Conningbrook Lakes. To ensure this funding is effectively used we are going out to the market for support.

The exercise is looking for interest in developing the site and any opportunities to help build and grow the vision for the location. The “soft market testing” will help to determine current interest but any proposals will have to be mindful of the Country Park to ensure the site retains the tranquillity, habitat and nature conservation value which it is renowned for.

Cllr Kate Walder, portfolio holder for parks and recreation said: “Conningbrook Lakes is a wonderful place to visit and enjoy. We want to know if there are any local businesses who would like to work with ABC and partners to be part of the site’s exciting future, so we are undertaking a soft market testing exercise to see what interest there might be.”

“It’s important to note that any proposals brought forward would be subject to consideration by the council. We are not bound by them, and they are not necessarily going to be granted. We are just looking for potential interest and ideas to come forward at this point.”
