Reporting Empty Homes

A long term empty home is a property which has been empty (unoccupied) for six months or more.

A local authority may take action where a building is unoccupied. We can also take action where the occupier is temporarily absent, and the building is not effectively secured against unauthorised entry. We can also intervene with properties that are likely to become a danger to the public .

The private sector housing team contact the owners of empty properties and offer advice and support to those wishing to bring the property back into use.

Advice on any available government funded loans will be given where appropriate. Visit the Kent County Council 'No Use Empty' campaign website which has details of empty homes loans.

Private sector housing can be contacted about empty properties. Please email the private sector housing team.
