The Gambling Act 2005 covers the regulation of gambling as well as all commercial gambling in England and Wales.
Gambling Act Policy
Ashford Borough Council approved its Statement of Principles for Gambling 2022-2025 [pdf] 1695KB on 9 December 2021. The policy came into effect on 1 February 2022 and runs until 31 January 2025.
The council has also published its Statement of Principles for Gambling 2025-2028 [pdf] 1558KB on 24 October 2024, which will come into effect for the period 1 February 2025 to 31 January 2028.

Our objectives
There are three key licensing objectives behind the legislation:
- Preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime
- Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
- Protecting children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling
