Unauthorised encampments
Unauthorised encampments are any encampment on private land without permission from the landowner. Private land includes highway verges and lay-bys. Housing services deal with unauthorised encampments on council land and offer advice to private land owners.
Information regarding unauthorised encampments on privately owned land can be found in the Unauthorised Encampments Advice Leaflet [pdf] 2984KB.

Unauthorised developments
Unauthorised developments are encampments set-up on gypsies’ or travellers’ own land without permission from the council. These developments also include encampments on private land that have permission from the landowner, but not from the council. Our Planning and Development team deal with unauthorised developments.
